Old Churchyard Community Project

All Saints churchyard is undergoing an inspired regeneration.
Continuing to create a peaceful space that promotes nature, well-being and serenity.

The project's showpiece is a labyrinth
designed for contemplative walking, with intricate shapes and distinct patterns.

“We can now see our vision of creating a restful, beautiful space for our whole community being delivered, supported by ARC’s tremendous knowledge, expertise and outreach experience”
Fr. Chrisopher Wilson

Work started in Autumn 2022 when community groups, schools and nature-lovers transformed the East Garden into a perennial wildflower wonder, nustling a small meadow in between the foliage as a space to gather in tranquillity.

Over the last two years the Church has worked alongside ARC (Achieving Results in Communities) in regenerating the church gardens.

Dates to get involved:

Connecting with local neighbours, a core group of 10 volunteers have devoted their time every week. Along with guidance from ARC, a supportive and respectful gardening community has emerged to manage and upgrade the gardens.

Work has included; creating retreats for wildlife and installing new garden beds and the planting of fruit trees, native hedgerow, wildflowers and perennials throughout the grounds.

This has improved the environment and helped to reduce reports of anti-social behaviour in the Churchyard.

The group have become friends whilst working in the garden. The sessions offer support for wellbeing and social connection by spending time learning together, being active and making connections!

The community is open to all!
Local people are welcome to join this friendly group at any time, no gardening knowledge required. 👍

As we move into phase-3, support is required.

  • Volunteer to help plant the labyrinth (taking place on 6th April 2025)
  • Donate towards material costs
  • Spread the word about the great work and the plan ahead

Did you know: In 1940 the churchyard was hit by a bomb, leaving a crater and destroying many gravestones.
