Old Churchyard Community Project
The churchyard is in desperate need of regeneration and its community needs a inspiration, creative and relaxing space where nature and well being can thrive.
The old churchyard is in desperate need of regeneration and its community needs an inspiring, creative and relaxing space where nature and well-being can thrive.
Join us on our journey of discovery to transform this urban space into a haven of peace, aided and built by the local community and shared with all who enjoy nature and tranquillity.
Phase 1 – Rewilding the Church Garden
COMPLETE
In Autumn 2022, we involved community groups, schools and nature-lovers in developing our East Garden into a perennial wildflower garden (like hayfield or mountain pasture). The area was cleared, prepared and planted. We expect seasonal blooms for all to enjoy, around a mown area where groups of children and adults can meet outdoors in this private tranquil area.
TO DO
We wish to partner with conservation groups and others to increase biodiversity and attract as much wildlife as possible to this haven of peace. If you have ideas or can help, please contact us at the address below:
Phase 2 – Create a communal green space for all to own and enjoy.
Part 1 – Spring 2023
In February 2023 we will be replanting further areas of the old churchyard with traditional and indigenous species of trees and shrubs. Timing is of the essence. If you can help, please, see below:
Part 2 – Summer/Autumn 2023
Initial planting will be a visible step forward to allow engagement with other community groups and to develop our joint plans ,ideas and publicity more fully during the Summer. With community involvement we will plan the second planting schedule and amenity layout for Autumn and beyond. This It will create an open space with a permanent, seasonally changing spectacle of flowers, trees and shrubs in a biodiverse environment for all to seek solace, relax and enjoy.
New Partnership to Transform All Saints’ ChurchyardWe are pleased to announce that ARC (Achieving Results in Communities) have partnered with Leamington’s Parish Church (All Saints’) to transform the old churchyard into a haven for reflection, wellbeing and wildlife in the centre of the town. Take a look here for more information about this partnership: https://arccic.co.uk/new-partnership-to-transform-all-saints-churchyard/
Fancy helping with Planting?
With help from a grant from Warwick District Council, we have ordered native hedging plants, both evergreen and deciduous, and also a few trees to plant as soon as possible for optimum impact. If you can help planting on Saturday 18th February between 10 am – 2pm please contact the Parish Office [email protected] or Charles Craft on [email protected] You will need to bring a spade and gloves. We will judge weather conditions and can revert to 25th February if necessary.
Phase 3 – Installing the Labyrinth - 2024
Finishing with a ground-level labyrinth set into the grass, the Community Garden project will be complete and will give an opportunity for purposeful reflection and mindfulness - as practised worldwide for centuries.
