VE Day Service at the Town War Memorial

The Dean of Coventry 16 March 2014 Second Sunday of Lent We were delighted that the Dean, the Very Revd John Witcombe, was able to come and preach as part of our Lent series on Discipleship. He preached from a script, and has kindly given us a copy for the website. He refers to the sculpture by Ginnie Morris (left), 'Charlotte 22, Robson 46'. (The butterfly is not part of the sculpture but had settled there, and combined with the sunlight, it certainly makes for a striking photo.)
Bishop Christopher preached (and presided) the previous Sunday, but did so without a script, so unfortunately we cannot post it here. We appreciated his words though.

Remembrance Sunday at the Town War Memorial,
10 November 2013 The Civic Service of Remembrance at Euston Place was conducted this year by Fr Christopher. Chris White MP joined the Mayor of Royal Leamington Spa and members of the Town Council in the civic party. Members and veterans of armed forces and uniformed organisations as well as members of the public were in attendance. Cubbington Silver Band accompanied the hymns, whilst the Choir of All Saints' sang during the Laying of the Wreaths: 'Holy is the True Light, and passing wonderful, lending radiance to them that endured in the heat of the conflict; from Christ they inherit a home of unfading splendour, wherein they rejoice with gladness evermore. Alleluia!' (Words: Salisbury Diurnal, trans. G. Palmer; music William Harris, 1883-1973) 'God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son. that whoso believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.' (Words: John 3.16-17; music John Stainer, 1840-1901)

Rededication of the Town War Memorial, 13 October 2013Eighteen names had been added to the war memorial in Euston Place, following research into those closely connected with the town who had died on active service. Nine dated from the First World War, eight from the Second World War, and one from the Malaya Insurgency. Fr Christopher was asked by the Town Council to rededicate the memorial, and the address he gave is below.
